What does Phi Sigma Kappa have to offer?
The Rutgers Chapter of Phi Sigma Kappa was established in 1959 and is still in standings with the community. We have run many fundraisers to help our national philanthropy Special Olympics, as well as participate in many mixers, intermural events, football games, and trips to local chapters. Beyond our social and athletic passions, brothers at Phi Sigma kappa study hard and earn high marks. We currently have brothers active in the Daily Targum, Residential Life, Honor Societies, Teach for America, and Recreation centers on campus. Many brothers hold full time jobs.

What to expect during rush?
Phi Sigma Kappa is a fraternity which doesn’t haze. The society encourages brotherhood bonds between pledges, brothers and alumni so when crossing we have a strong relationship from the start. As you go through formal rush, just be yourself, get to know each brother and let them get to know you. Remember we are not a “frat”, we are family.

What are the pledging/initiation requirements?
Although the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Affairs (OFSA) has a minimum cumulative GPA requirement of 2.25, we hold our standards higher than the average. You also must be a full time student at Rutgers University (meaning you are enrolled in at least 12 Credits)

What is pledging like?
Our pledging period is about 10 weeks, but is much more unique than other fraternities. Right from the moment you decide to pledge, you are treated with the same respect as any other brother.  We do not haze and guarantee that you will never be forced into an uncomfortable situation.  Our pledge process is designed to get you closer with your pledge class and the Fraternity as a whole.  We also educate you on all national fraternity history as well as local chapter history.  Our  pledge process is not demanding at all.  We require one weeknight per week to learn the history and essential information about the Fraternity as well as one night during the weekend for a pledge event.  These nights are arranged around your schedules so that you don’t need to sacrifice anything.  We encourage our new members to do well in their classes which are why many of our pledges receive 4.0 grade point averages while pledging.  Our motto for pledging is “Your Family and schoolwork come first.”   If you decide to pledge Phi Sigma Kappa, get ready for the most memorable semester of your college career.

How do costs compare to other fraternities?
Our pledge fees are $297.00 per semester and cover mandatory costs for Phi Sigma Kappa International and Interfraternity Council. Each semester brothers only have to pay $400.00 per semester. Our dues are a much lower cost than other fraternities, and like any organization the money is to help run our fraternity. Our dues goes towards future rush events, intramural, homecoming, formal, mixers, and most importantly insurance.

How do I get involved with intramural sports?
Phi Sigma Kappa is very active in the Keller Cup, participating in intramural athletics. We have teams in every sport offered (soccer, flag football, volleyball, basketball, softball, and volleyball) and compete in every event. Pledges are not only allowed to play but are encouraged. Phi Sigma Kappa recognizes potential and talents each brother has to offer.

Do I live in the chapter house and with whom do I live?
The Nu Tetarton chapter of Phi Sigma Kappa unfortunately does not own an official house. A few years ago, we sold the property before the economic down turn and have a lot of funds to support us in finding a new location. Although others would see this as a bad thing, many of our brothers live in a different house because finding a house together brings us closer.

How do chapter meetings work?
Phi Sigma Kappa has weekly chapter meetings, where we discuss the business of the chapter. We have these every Sunday at 8:00pm. Every member is expected to attend these meetings, as they are important to the well-being of the chapter.

What does Phi Sigma Kappa do for community service and philanthropy?
For more info on this, check out the service section of our website. This year we hope to set up a Volleyball Tournament to raise money for our national philanthropy Special Olympics.
